In the triple digits

September 18, 2008 · 14 Comments

Sorry we didn’t post this yesterday.  L had another blood draw and her hC.G is up to 130.  She spoke with the doctor directly and she said that while the number is still a little low, it is doubling like it should so she thinks everything is okay.  L has to go back on Monday for another test.  We both thought it was a positive sign that she didn’t have to go back again this week.

L’s pregnancy symptoms are continuing full strength, which we both also see as extemely positive.  She is so tired that she took the last two days off of work and basically slept all day.  Today she went to court in the morning and by the time she called me at lunch was so tired she was almost slurring her words.  She slept in her office-mate’s recliner for about an hour and when she woke up she decided to just go home and take a proper nap.  Also, her bre.asts are definitely bigger.

We are feeling more confident about things, though still pretty cautious.  I know that there is always a risk that something could go wrong, I just hope we get to the place where we can let ourselves be really excited.  I also wish that these numbers did not play such a role in how we are feeling about things.  If we never knew what L’s numbers were, and were just going by how her body felt (imagine that!) we would be so confident that things are going well.  Alas, this is the blessing and the curse of science.

I’m glad everything is progressing well. I think you are right– knowing too much (as we often have to in this process) is rarely comforting. But you are in a good place now– remember and celebrate that.

The blessing and curse of science indeed. Definitely understood and definitely happy for you both and equally thrilled that L. is so tired that she is probably using all her energy to help that sweet little one along. xo

I’m so glad for the doubling and all those pregnancy symptoms. I’m so glad you posted – I was wondering how you two were doing.

I hear you on the blessings and curses of modern science, but the numbers are doubling, and that’s great. Those symptoms sound like good signs that things are going well though.

Great to see those numbers rising! I know what you mean about the blessing/curse thing – we were on the opposite side of this – here in the UK a lot of things simply aren’t offered (litle beta numbers). We were frustrated that we DIDN’T have access to this info, but I’m sure it would have made us anxious to have had it too.

Congrats for the good news and the great symptoms (sorry L, that you are feeling so tired).

I didn’t get BETA numbers and I think I’m glad for that. I like the less is more idea….I just get so, so anxious with things to worry about.

I’m just glad that everything is going well.

Glad the numbers continue to rise…although it is definitely good to remember that w/out numbers to go on, you’d have no reason at all to fret.
